May 2012

  • A big month for horse racing and Physiotherapy provided by spinal physio as the Guineas meeting at Newmarket, the first classics of the season was covered as well as meetings at Nottingham.

  • Kevin Hunt has also been asked to return to The University of Nottingham, where he studied for his MSc in Sports & Exercise Medicine to speak to the MSc students on sports medicine issues in horse racing and the work of a physiotherapist working with this unique group of athletes.

April 2012

  • Kevin Hunt attended The Lesters in Birmingham on Easter Thursday. These are the annual horse racing industry awards. AP McCoy picked up the Champion jockey award for the 16th consecutive year. Another notable winner was  Cathy Gannon picking up female Jockey of the year despite being out for a few months with a fractured femur. A good night was had by all and thankfully none of the jockeys are anticipating a professional dance career after racing!

  • More Olympic preparation in London this month with Kevin Hunt attending Role specific training for his position as Physiotherapist for Equestrian at the London 2012 games.

  • The Turf flat season is back and physiotherapy racing cover was provided at Newmarket as well as Huntingdon and Nottingham.

March 2012

  • Business as usual at Spinal Physio in Cambridge this month. Race day cover provided at Folkestone and Huntingdon and Lectures at the British Horseracing School in Newmarket.

February 2012

  • More preparation for his role as a physiotherapist for the London 2012 Olympics, Kevin Hunt attends training at Wembley Arena.

  • The winter weather has finally arrived and unfortunately Huntingdon racecourse abandons it's meeting on the 9th of February. However it's not all bad news as that means there is one more physiotherapist available in the clinic today.

  • Lectures at the racing school in Newmarket this month -  all in English this time. Future champions learn about injury management and prevention .

 

January 2012

  • Kevin Hunt, Chief physiotherapist at Spinal Physio in Cambridge attends the Visa International Gymnastics London prepares event as a physiotherapist in preparation for his physiotherapy role at the London 2012 Olympic games. http://www.londonpreparesseries.com/gymnastics

  • A busy month for lecturing at the British Racing School in Newmarket to future professional jockeys on Injury management and prevention. This month also involved an interesting lecture to a group of Polish and Czech jockeys who didn't speak English. Actions speak louder than words! http://www.brs.org.uk/Home/index.php

  • Surprisingly for this time of year the weather has been remarkably mild and dry. Therefore all scheduled race meetings went ahead, with Kevin Hunt providing his usual Physiotherapy cover at Huntingdon Races. http://www.huntingdon-racecourse.co.uk/Home.htm

 

2011

  • Chief physiotherapist Kevin Hunt has been selected as a physiotherapist for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

  • Professional Jockey Hayley Turner returns from injury (treated at spinalphysio) with a winner. http://hayleyturner.com/

  • Spinalphysio staff attend courses on pitchside sports first aid trauma, Acupuncture for Headaches, Acupuncture for sports injuries and Sports Medicine Master classes on Hip pathology and Surgery and Foot and Ankle injuries and Surgery .

  • Physiotherapy race day cover provided by spinalphysio at Newmarket, Huntingdon, Nottingham, Towcester, Market Raisen, Southwell, Folkestone and Warwick.

  • Kevin Hunt continues to give a physiotherapy lecture on injury management and prevention to jockeys at the British Racing School.

  • Spinalphysio staff contribute to research data collection on the effect of Physiotherapy in neck pain, shoulder pain and knee pain.

 

2010

  • Spinal Physio staff attend in theatre to see local Neurosurgeons perform keyhole spinal surgery.

  • Kevin Hunt contributes to a book published in 2010 called Acupuncture in Manual Therapy.

  • Champion Apprentice Freddie Tylicki returns to racing after successful treatment at spinal Physio after a severe shoulder injury.

  • Physiotherapy Race day cover at Newmarket, Huntingdon, Market Raisen, Southwell, Towcester and Newbury.

  • Kevin Hunt attends the UK School Games again in 2010 as a Physiotherapist. This time the games were in Newcastle and Gateshead and Kevin was covering Fencing. In previous years he covered such sports as Badminton, Swimming and Athletics.
