Women's Health Physiotherapist
Abi is a senior physiotherapist and qualified from Oxford Brookes University in 2007 with a BSc (Hons) in physiotherapy. She then worked for seven years in the NHS, gaining experience in all areas of physiotherapy but gradually specialising in musculoskeletal physiotherapy. Before joining Spinal Physio she worked in a private practice in Berkshire for 5 years.
Abi has a special interest in Womens Health and Pelvic Physiotherapy which has developed with her career, and she is an Associate member of the Pelvic Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy (POGP) network. She particularly enjoys treating ante-natal and post-natal patients, having previously been involved with leading antenatal groups and running a Women’s Health Physiotherapy service within the NHS. Abi is not afraid to take on a hands-on approach with pregnant patients, and has been trained in this through the Pelvic Partnership. She also has experience in treating patients with gynaecological or incontinence problems, persistent pelvic pain and giving pre-prostatectomy advice to men. Given the sensitive nature of some of these problems, Abi has a friendly and reassuring manner as she wants all her patients to feel at ease even when discussing these issues. They are far more common than everyone thinks!
Outside of work, Abi is generally doing the school run on her bike or looking after her two children. When she has the chance, she enjoys running and open water swimming (when the temperature is right!).
“During my pregnancy and for two years afterwards I suffered with bad pelvic girdle pain, which meant that I was unable to do any form of exercise. At this point I started regular physio sessions with Abi. With these, my pain improved and Abi equipped me with a set of exercises to make me stronger and help relieve any niggles. I am now able to take part in a regular weekly exercise class.” Anne-Marie L
“Thank you for all your help with my pelvic pain over the last few months of my pregnancy!”
“Many thanks for your kind and effective help in restoring my [pelvic floor] strength”
"Abi made me feel very relaxed and was very receptive to everything I said. Without using long words or technical terms she convinced me that she really knew what she was doing. She has great empathy and is perfect for this profession."
